My Role

  • XHTML/CSS
  • ExpressionEngine

The non-profit organization Reading Is Fundamental of Southern California approached me to redesign their website, as well as provide the site with a solid backend to publish new content. The previous website was basic flat HTML files being updated by FTP.

For the design, I chose a bright color palette that would reflect the youthful nature of their business. ExpressionEngine was chosen to power the backend, which would give them newfound publishing power. They now use ExpressionEngine to post artwork from the children, as well as news, photos, book reviews and more.

The site also serves as a donation destination, where every $10 donation brings a child into their program for an entire year, providing 3 brand new books for each child

I was contracted by Airbag Industries (now Happy Cog), to build the ExpressionEngine backend for the MacArthur Foundation’s new website. Site design was completed by Airbag, and I built ExpressionEngine to suit, also working with the client to refine it until completion. I am honored to have worked with both Airbag Industries, as well as the MacArthur Foundation, both of whom were outstanding to work for.

This was created from the ground up as a new place for Baby Boomers to find the best information on where to relocate for retirement, as well as up-to-date information on lifestyle and health. I created the design and then built the system on ExpressionEngine, hosted through the fantastic Joyent. The site pulls information in from each towns local news and weather, and is a multiple author site with blogs and columns from many well known authors around the country.

Later on, podcasts were added for each town, and eBook sales are planned for 2010.

In 2004, the Industrial Council Chamber of Commerce hired me to redesign their website and give them a new backend to power it. Before this the Chamber was running static html pages. I chose ExpressionEngine as the CMS and created the site around it. This gave the Chamber amazing publishing power now, letting them add new Chamber members, news, calendar events and more. The site uses PayPal to sell Chamber event tickets as well. We are currently in the process of redesigning the site, adding new functionality and giving it a much needed facelift.
